Using my SSH key

My SSH key lives in my vault: it follows me onto my machines without ever being written in cleartext on their disk. My administrator enables this service for me (option enableVaultwardenSsh).

  1. Create the key

In the web vault : New → SSH Key. A key is generated automatically ; the form also accepts an existing key.

  2. Send the public key

Copy the public key, then I send it to my administrator. They authorize it on my machines.

  1. First time

rbw login : I enter my master password.

  2. Each session

rbw unlock, then ssh, git push… work without any other prompt.

  3. After adding a key

rbw sync retrieves a key added from the web vault.

To check : ssh-add -L displays my key.

The vault locks after twelve hours without use. The next use of the key reopens the master password window.
